..Sunday in Les Anglais

Sunday services!   A very spiritual and moving day.   We knew that we needed a good nourishing breakfast for this long day.   ALSO - it was very hot and humid!   Breakfast included egg casserole, bananas, bread and 'mamba' (peanut butter), fruit juice, and .. very rich, dark coffee!

Several youth groups came up and sang to us.    Everyone is in their Sunday finest!   This service is 3-hours long!    Music is very important in their worship!    Each member of our team introduced themselves and gave a brief greeting.   Jim Shaw gave a sermon.

After this spirit-induced (and exhausting) service we had lunch and re-filled water bottles for a town 'walk-about'.    Started by visiting the medical clinic that was undergoing a remodel.



We then walked over to the 'beach village', the poorest part of Les Anglais.    These people set-up huts and tins close to the beach, similar to a homeless camp.

We then had a dilemma of how to cross a stream.. on top of tires.


On our hike back to the church we saw this group of boys riding donkeys.


Lynda and Austin had fun trying to communicate with kids!

Our Sunday evening outdoor evangelical service, which is normally held in another part of Les Anglais, was moved to the church because of pending thunderstorms.   It was like a rock concert!   Wow!  Do the Haitians know how to celebrate Jesus!    Some of their songs were 15-minutes long!

What a way to finish the Sabbath!!   We had two glorious days of experiencing the love of the village!

The Adventure BEGINS !! Feb.6 & 7

Bags packed a year ago and re-packed on Super Bowl Sunday are now ready for the long trip to Les Anglais with much needed supplies for the village. The team is starting to arrive with their large 50-lb suitcases and their roll-aboards and backpacks. Tim Kitch is attaching a special group marking yellow-green rope to each bag. Jim Shaw, team leader is handing out sheets containing activity and meeting schedules, work and school project and ladies tea assignments and current luggage content lists. Afterwards Jim asks everyone to grab their large suitcases and proceed to the American Airlines ticket agent.   It's quite a sight!    This circus train of 50-lb (elephant) bags are paraded up to the astonished looks of the ticket agents.   Jim gives his credit card to one and it flip-flops between two agents as they process this massive amount of luggage.    Four pieces turn out to be around 52-54 lbs. each.   Jim has to re-adj...

..Saturday - travel day, homeward bound & final thoughts

We woke up to a beautiful sunrise in Dallas.    A good way to start our return!    God shined on us! Jim had commandeered the entire shuttle van the previous night for our entourage of people and luggage.   It was a tight fit.    Bob and Cindy spent the night in Minneapolis and were preparing to board a Delta plane to meet up with us in Portland. This was a screenshot of the seat screen on our final approach to PDX.    Home at last! we had taken a large loop pattern for our landing approach The adventure and mission was over.   We all proceeded to the baggage area and saw Bob & Cindy awaiting our arrival.   We had a glorious re-union and awaited all of our specially-marked large suitcases.    Friends and family met us and hugged us.    Once we assembled and double-checked our luggage, we gathered in a tight circle and Jim Shaw said a few words and thanked the team for a job wel...

..Thursday - Les Cayes

After breakfast we enjoyed some personal time to relax at the retreat center.   It was a good time to grab a cup of coffee and write in your journal.   Jim spent a lot of time organizing his and the group's photos and videos.   It will take him a good 70-hours of editing when he gets home.    Several of the team went down to the beach and the beautiful Caribbean to collect shells or enjoy a casual stroll.  I, on the other hand, went all-in and got in the water and enjoyed the heavy surf.   Very invigorating! We departed for Les Cayes and the Nunemaker's house for lunch.   Afterwards the entire team visited the City of Lumiere Hospital. it sits on top of a hill with glorious views all around!
